Easy Steamed Mussels with Tamarillo Vinegar

Having a BBQ? This is the easiest plate to take, and it will be a hit!

Fresh, sweet seafood with a tangy flavoured vinegar that will dance on your taste buds. Paired with a bitter sweet onion and you’re winning. This one will be a crowd favourite.

Ingredients

Shellfish

Onions

Method

Get fresh mussels, or any kind of shellfish you like. [Pipi, cockles and TuaTua’s are amazing in this dish as well.]

Put your shellfish in a big pot with the lid on, onto high heat, but don’t put any water in the pot. [Just let them steam in their own juices.]

Steam long enough for the shellfish to gently open, or until you desire.

Remove and plate up

In a separate bowl, finely dice shallots or white onion.

Pour Due North’s Tamarillo Vinegar, or Strawberry Vinegar over the onions.

Open them up, dip and devour!

Alternatively, de-shell and place the flesh into a vinaigrette mix and you have gourmet marinated shellfish!
